Funking Up The Dance Floor Part 4

Image
It’s Friday night boogie night, so turn on your groove control and get on the move! The opening track by Tuxedo is from their brand new album Tuxedo II that came out today: "When it comes to crafting sparkling, historically accurate chunks of '80s soul and disco, few are quite as expert as Tuxedo." ( Juno Download ) Ranman’s reviews wrote about 'Big fun' from the LP ‘Gonna have big fun’ by New Horizons: “The live horns gives "Big Fun" "the bite" it needs to have the lead and backround vocals do its thing. A fuzzed rock 'n roll guitar solo is effortlessly played and felt, you'll break out the air guitar in a heartbeat.” Enjoy this 4th part of Funking Up The Dance Floor ! Tracklist: The Reddings – Back To The Basics (With Our Love) (1983) B.T. Express – This Must Be The Night For Love (1982) Enlightment – Burning Flame (1984) Bridge – No Where Love Affair (1981) Blackbyrds – Don’t Know What To Say (1980) Blue Feather

Love & Peace, a message by the Smooth Operators

Image
Cari Ann Wayman The Smooth Operators give you a message of hope in these dark and troubled times with a selection of protest songs that emphasize love and peace. In general, a protest song is a song that is associated with a movement for social change. It was especially popular during the Vietnam war. Monumental protest songs are ‘What’s going on’ by Marvin Gaye and ‘War’ by Edwin Starr. Around the mid-sixties protest songs were very popular on the American West Coast, most notably in the Summer of Love (1967). When the Vietnam war ended, the protest song lost its popularity fast and it never became as widespread as it was between 1965-1975. The Smooth Operators hope it will make a strong return soon! We need it now more than ever. Tracklist: Chambers Brothers - What The World Needs Now Is Love (1967) The Love Committee - One Day Of Peace (1974) Omar - Stop War, Make Love (2013) Marvin Gaye - What’s Going On (1971) The Jones Girls – At Peace With Woman (1980) HD – No

Smooth Sailing: Morning Music & Soft Sounds

Joan Smalls (Instagram) Enjoy this new part of Smooth Sailing ! One of the tracks is 'Evening prayer' by Jens Lekman. It's from his new album ‘Life will see you now’ and is clearly inspired by Larry Levan’s disco classic ‘Can’t play around’ from Lace. Check out both intros! JOB Movement's ‘Friendship Train’ was the second LP by the group and one which saw the group rise to new heights. It's a masterpiece of African music with its fluid afro beat grooves and spaced out Moog synthesizer sounds. The album is re-released on Cultures of Soul recently. Here is an excerpt from the liner notes: "Prince Bola Agbana might hardly be the most immediately recognizable name in the constellation of Nigerian music stars, but for a significant portion of the last half-century he labored in the shadows, dutifully serving as one of the key movers in its development: An in-demand session musician. An early and respected exponent of funk. A catalyst in the retrofit of juju

Best Of 90s Soul

From the mid-eighties soul music became very pale. It w represented by a few pop singers, like Whitney Houston and, a few years later, Mariah Carey. It seemed fully wiped from the table by house and hip hop. By the beginning of the 1990s, however, it reappeared, merged with hip hop. Female singers like Janet Jackson, Mary J. Blige and En Vogue became the frontrunners of a new urban sound. Richard J. Ripani wrote in "The New Blue Music: Changes in Rhythm & Blues, 1950-1999" that Janet Jackson's Control (1986) was "important to the development of R&B for a number of reasons" , as she and her producers, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, "crafted a new sound that fuses the rhythmic elements of funk and disco, along with heavy doses of synthesizers, percussion, sound effects, and a rap music sensibility." That same year, Teddy Riley began producing R&B recordings that included hip hop influences. This combination of R&B style and hip hop rhythms w
