Released in March 1977, Easy by The Commodores reached number one on the Billboard Hot Soul Singles chart and number four on the Billboard Hot 100. The song is a slow ballad about a man's emotions at the end of a relationship. Singer Lionel Richie states that he is not depressed about the break-up and claims that he feels "easy like Sunday morning". Jonathan Coulton did a good job to sound exactly like the original, which was his intention. After leaving the group to pursue a solo career in the early 1970s, he scored a large number of hits in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, including One Is One , Juanita and Peaches On A Tree . He disappeared from view the next decade after his last hit single ( Hello Good Morning ) in 1980, but he suddenly came back into the news in 2015. He had been arrested for participating in a drug gang. He would later say that he had spent tons of money on women, gambling and drugs, because of his success at a very young age. Marty Balin who passed away a few years ago, is best known for his contributions to the pioneering San Francisco based, psychedelic rock band Jefferson Airplane in the 1960s. Unsplash Enjoy the soundtrack to a West Coast sundown! 😊 The closing track by Matt Duncan is brand new, by the way. It sounds like a lost recording from The Nightfly sessions by Donald Fagen. At the time critics sometimes called David Cassidy’s music bubblegum pop. That was simply defined  music manufactured to sell as much records as possible and it was mostly aimed at a very young audience. Bubblegum's classic period ran from the mid-sixties to the mid-seventies. At that point disco music took over the single market. However, David Cassidy certainly made some very good records, although in later years he found it difficult to shake off his teen idol image. “His wispiest, breathiest hit was called ‘I Am A Clown’. Morgan made one of the best yacht rock albums ever in 1976. The self-titled LP featured an extraordinary line up of the best LA musicians around at the time, including David Foster, Harvey Mason, Ed Greene, Jay Graydon, Ray Parker Jr., Tower of Power, Ernie Watts and Jeff Porcaro. Two decades earlier Jaye P. Morgan was already established as a singer. For instance, The Longest Walk and That's All I Want From You were both very successful on the American charts. During the 1960s she led a rather obscure and private life, performing infrequently in nightclubs. She resurfaced in the 1970s when she gained popularity through her TV appearances. Let's take another ride to California and enjoy some more ' Funky chillin' on the West Coast '!  One of the key songs is '(Sitting on) the dock of the bay' from Otis Redding. While on tour with the Bar-Kays in August 1967, Redding wrote the first verse of the song, under the abbreviated title "Dock of the Bay," on a houseboat at Waldo Point in Sausalito, California. He had come off his famed performance at the Monterey Pop Festival just months earlier in June 1967. While touring in support of the albums King & Queen and his live set Live in Europe, he continued to scribble lines of the song on napkins and hotel paper. In November of that year he joined producer and guitarist Steve Cropper at the Stax recording studio in Memphis, Tennessee. Tomorrow it will officially be summer and these tracks about California give me the right summer feeling, It's the music I'd like to hear when I'd take a ride to the West Coast on a sunny day with the radio on. But I'm not used to driving a car, I've never been to California and I don't have the money to buy an airplane ticket from the Netherlands to the US, so I don't think this will happen very often... Perhaps I should say instead that it's the music that makes me happy. It's a collection of relaxed tunes that makes you feel like being in California. The songs have a sunny feeling most of the times, but with a few dark clouds as well . It would have been the perfect soundtrack to the movie ‘ Flashbacks of a fool ’.
