Smooth Sailing: Soft Soul, Slow Dance & Folk Funk

Image
Pixabay You may not get turned on, as the Addrisi Brothers suggest, but when you keep 6 feet distance from each other, it is perfectly safe to slow dance on the beach. Enjoy! 😊  Don and Dick Addrisi were part of an acrobatic family, but they chose music as their career. In the 1950s they recorded a series of singles that sounded like the Everly Brothers, from which Cherrystone became a hit in 1959. Then the brothers disappeared from the limelight for more than a decade, concentrating on composing. Their biggest success as a songwriting duo was Never My Love , a hit for The Association in 1967. Inspired by another family act, the Bee Gees, the duo re-invented themselves as a really strong disco and yacht rock act in the 1970s. Their three albums from that period are definitely worth checking out. Slow Dancin’ Don’t Turn Me On reached #20 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1977. The brothers worked together until Don Addrisi died from pancreatic cancer in 1984.   Uno Esta by...

Slow Dancin’ Moods (Mixcloud 500!)

Image
C-Heads Magazine Yes, I reached my 500th upload on Mixcloud today! :-) I uploaded my first cloudcast on the 3rd of September 2009 as one of the first users of Mixcloud and today, 9 years later, I added my 500th one! Thanks to everyone for making this possible. I am so glad that my “funky chill” dj-style or “relaxed Sunday morning music" or "music you can almost dance to" or "soulful pop" made it to the ears of so many listeners. To celebrate my 500th cloudcast on Mixcloud I chose to call the genre that I play "slow dancing moods". Enjoy this hour of celebration! German journalist Thomas Splett wrote about the album Addrisi Brothers (1977): You hear the strong influence of the Bee Gees. Their own version of "Never My Love" - a hit for The Association, written by the brothers in 1967 - is wonderful. There is also a nice cover of Michael Frank's "Monkey See, Monkey Do". A contemporary document. The artwork is priceless!...

Smooth Sunday Morning Selection (AOR On The Radio)

Enjoy this new 'morning radio' episode of AOR On The Radio ! Probably the best space track ever is ‘Starship 109’ by Mistral. It’s such a good song! Mistral was a space disco project from Dutchman Robbie van Leeuwen. He wrote ‘Venus’ for Shocking Blue, a number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1970 and for Bananarama in 1986. And it was also on the Stars on 45 Medley that reached number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1981. You can hear Van Leeuwen play guitar on ‘Starship 109’ as well. The track is on 'Paradise Goulash', a new mixed compilation by Prins Thomas. "The music contained within is a willfully diverse collection of music that I hope you'll find pleasing to your ears," Prins Thomas says. "Much like a bowl of goulash, not all the ingredients might be to your liking. It is undeniably more rustic roadside tavern than refined dining but I hope you already trust me behind the pots and pans." The parents of Don and Dick Addrisi were part o...
