So no wonder that the West Coast sound was flourishing those days! The Keane Brothers were a duo of teen brothers from L.A. who released four albums and briefly hosted a television variety show on CBS. DJ Supermarkt wants You’re Running Away , produced by David Foster and Lamont Dozier, from their album Taking Off , on one of his future Too Slow To Disco compilations. The problem is that he has not been able to get it licensed yet. The rights are not clear, according to Universal, the owner of ABC Records. To be honest, I think the term yacht soul is quite ambiguous and most of the times it is used to play pure soul or disco tracks, like Shalamar, which has nothing to do with the original concept of yacht rock at all. The term has become blurry, if there is no “yacht” connection. However, DJ Supermarkt has found that connection by selecting soul covers of well-known yacht rock songs: “The pure Yacht Rock fans sometimes don’t appreciate the black music part. That’s why I never used that expression on our compilations, instead went for Yacht Pop. To me that integration of soul, jazz, funk is the essence of the part of YACHT music I like. Autumn is perhaps best summarized by English band Mud in their song Don’t You Know : “It’s slightly getting colder… “ 😉 It is the B-side of their hit Show Me You’re A Woman and on the compilation album Mud: The Singles 1973-80 . Show Me You’re A Woman reached number 8 in the UK and only number 25 in the Netherlands. By the way, the lyrics of that song would be called very inappropriate these days, because it somehow suggests a relationship with a minor. American Flyer was formed in 1976 and released two successful albums before falling apart two years later. They had one small hit, Let Me Down Easy , which reached number 80 on the Billboard Hot 100. Sadly enough only Linda Ronstadt is still alive. Recently Olivia Newton-John passed away. Her career took off in the early 1970s with some major soft pop hits in the US. Her record sales dropped by the end of the decade, but she suddenly became a mega-star when she appeared as Sandy in Grease . Afterwards, just like in the movie, her image changed from an innocent girl to a woman all dressed in leather on the cover of her album Totally Hot , which contained A Little More Love . She kept this more provocative image until the release of her biggest hit Physical in 1981. In the second half of the decade she could not compete with new teen stars like Debbie Gibson and Tiffany and her days as a superstar were over. The songs by Kuzko and Lexsoul Dancemachine are brand new. In 1980 Donna Summer’s album The Wanderer peaked at number 13 on the Billboard Album Chart and sold around 600,000 copies nationwide. The title track, which is on this cloudcast, was quite successful and hit number 3 on the US singles chart. However, two follow-up singles ( Cold Love and Who Do You Think You're Foolin' ) barely reached the Top 40. The main reason for not selling large numbers was probably Donna’s change from disco to dance rock at the time.
