Mellow Mellow FM The Rhythm Of Southern California

Image
Laguna Beach Enjoy the rhythm of southern California on Mellow Mellow FM ! Let It Happen is a tribute to Greek synthesizer wizard and film score composer Vangelis ( Blade Runner ) who died last week. In the 1960s he was a member of prog rock band Aphrodite’s Child. Former singer of that band, Demis Roussos, recorded Let It Happen as well. He did it with more self-confidence and power, which gave the song a totally different context. The original, vulnerable version by Vangelis was sung by F.R. David, known for his hit Words. In the 1970s Vangelis was still searching for a style of his own. In 1981 he found his own trademark when he composed the soundtrack to the movie Chariots Of Fire . He was rewarded with an Oscar a year later. When You Smile by State Cows is from their new album High And Dry. Zachary Crawford's track is brand new too. Next up is a fresh episode of Smooth Sailing ! Tracklist: Daryl Hall & John Oates – Private Eyes (1981) Steve Winwood – Higher Love (198

Eddy’s 80s Grooves Part 44 The Finest Electro Jams

Image
Pixabay These electro jams could sparsely be heard in local clubs when I started to go out in the mid-eighties. To find dj’s that played this mixture of electro funk and (post) disco you had to go overseas to American clubs, like Zanzibar and Paradise Garage, where legendary dj’s Tony Humphries and Larry Levan were in command. This kind of music turned out to be the foundation for house a few years later. In the critically acclaimed documentary The Sparks Brothers from director Edgar Wright ( Baby Driver ) singer Russell Mael of Sparks tells the story of a record executive who wanted them to make music one could dance to, after dropping record sales. And so the duo did literally by recording the album Music You Can Dance To in 1986. Shopping Mall Of Love is one of the tracks. Enjoy this new part of Eddy’s Eighties Grooves ! Next up is an episode of Mellow Mellow FM . Tracklist: The S.O.S. Band – The Finest [Intro] (1986) George Clinton – Do Fries Go With That Shake (1986) Bora Bor

Smooth Sailing: Slowdown Sundown

Image
Unsplash 23 sunset melodies to enjoy at a late night beach party! 😊 The big hit from the Year Of The Cat album by Al Stewart was the title track, except in South Africa, where Sand In Your Shoes was released as the first single and went to #6. The singer explained on a CD reissue of the album that he wanted the song as the first single, but the record company only released it in South Africa: “I always try to write one short song with a nice tune in an effort to get played on AM Radio. And it never works! It’s supposed to sound like a 1966 Bob Dylan track, although it probably doesn’t.” Although he kept on recording for more than 40 years, singer Albert West from the Netherlands was most successful in the mid-seventies. He had a string of hits inside and outside the Dutch borders and he was even some kind of teen idol at the time. In 1975 he came second in the Dutch round of the Eurovision Song Contest, just behind Teach-In. The latter one would win the grand final of the festival,
