Image
Goes cruising just as fast as she can now And she'll have fun, fun, fun till her daddy takes the T-bird away Fun, fun, fun, 'till her daddy takes the T-bird away ( Fun Fun Fun ) I put in a track by Little Richard after seeing the documentary I Am Everything about his struggles with faith, fame, homosexuality and above all, lack of recognition. He was the one and only architect of rock 'n' roll and inspired many pop legends, like The Beatles, Rolling Stones, David Bowie and last but not least, Prince. Fun fact: Soft rock duo Seals & Crofts used to be members of The Champs ( Tequila )! Enjoy this new episode of Sunshine Radio ! 1981 The Year When Disco Revived

Image
Burst Enjoy the final part of the series !  In 1981 disco was more popular than ever in the Netherlands. There were more disco hits in the year-end Dutch top 100 singles chart than in each year of the 1970s, the decade when disco was at its global commercial height. In 1963, at the age of 13, Caroline Crawford signed a contract to Motown Records, after winning a talent contest. She sang backup vocals for many of the early Motown artists, and recorded her first solo song in 1964. She left Motown a year later and after a break she would pop up as Hamilton Bohannon's lead singer in the late 1970s. You can hear her voice prominently on Let’s Start II Dance Again . It was number one for weeks on my personal hit list at the time. Tracklist: The Jones Girls – ASAP (As Soon As Possible) Carl Carlton – Don’t You Wanna Make Love Tom Tom Club – Wordy Rappinghood [Eddy’s ‘You Don’t Stop’ Edit] The Whispers – It’s A Love Thing K.I.D. – Don’t Stop Bohannon Feat. Smooth Sailing On A Late Summer Night

Unsplash As a touring member of the Pretenders Welshman Carwyn Ellis originally started his worldwide collective Rio 18 in Brazil. She’s In L.A. is a collaboration with AOR masters Young Gun Silver Fox: “They deliver a new flavour of lowriding Californian funk, telling a story about the joy of finding a new life in the City Of Angels, the metropolis by the sea.” (Bandcamp) Evie Sands began recording as a teenager in the mid-1960s. After a rocky start and having trouble with unreliable record executives who stole her songs, she finally had a hit single with Any Way That You Want Me in 1969. Her debut album, also named Any Way That You Want M e, was released several months after the single had peaked. In 1975 Estate of Mind saw the light of day on Capitol Records. Produced by Dennis Lambert and Brian Potter, the album marked her continued output as a first class singer/songwriter. The disco inspried One Thing On My Mind is one of the outstanding tracks. The song was covered by severa...

Sophistication Of The Eighties Part 2 (Mixcloud Exclusive)

Image
Pexels Enjoy this exclusive follow-up to Sophistication Of The Eighties ! Gary Fane (November 3 1942 – July 12 2019) seemed to come from nowhere when he launched his ambitious concept album Horoscope in 1980 (musically inspired by Jeff Wayne’s War Of The Worlds ). At the time only a few people were aware that he was the original singer of The Surfers, known for the European, Beach Boys inspired hit Windsurfin'. The tv-performances of the single were lip-synced by models, because Gary Fane himself was already in his late thirties when this song about high school fun was on the pop chart.  Next up is a new part of Smooth Sailing ! Tracklist: Steve Winwood ‎ – Second Hand Woman (1980) ABC – King Without A Crown (1987) Gary Fane – Gemini Eyes (1980) Howard Jones – What Is Love? [Symphonic Version] (2018) The Associates – Breakfast (1985) Leo Sayer – Time Ran Out On You (1980) Ray Parker Jr. & Raydio – All In The Way You Get Down (1981) Clifford Coulter – Don’t Wanna See You ...

Sophistication Of The Eighties

Image
Pexels Sophisti-pop, soul pop, yacht rock and an occasional Japanese city pop song are the ingredients of a new series: Sophistication Of The Eighties , named after the Steve Harley song. Enjoy! When Andrew Gold was in England to record with his band Wax, he met British singer Steve Harley in the kitchen of RAK studios and Gold offered Harley to play piano on his song Sophistication . The track was meant to be put on Harley’s album El Gran Senor , but his record company RAK went bankrupt and the album never came out. Years later Harley managed to get Sophistication back and released it on an independent label. Denim rockers Status Quo started as a psychedelic rock band in the 1960s, but felt uncomfortable with their image and therefore changed their music style drastically in the 1970s. They played straight forward rock from then on and eventually became successful with it. For more than 20 years they were regular visitors of the charts. Although there were some serious struggles with...
