1976 The Year When Disco Became Big

Image
When sixties band the Bee Gees reappeared as a phoenix from the ashes with a string of disco hits in 1976, it became obvious that a new market had opened. A year later their music for the movie Saturday Night Fever made disco the most dominant music style for a short period of time, but it stayed influential until this day. Disco made dance music an enduring force in the music industry.  For this part of the disco years I selected some of the most sampled disco songs of 1976. Enjoy! Tracklist: Double Exposure ‎– Everyman (Has To Carry His Own Weight) (1976) Loleatta Holloway – Hit And Run (1976) The Trammps ‎– Where The Happy People Go (1976) Walter Murphy ‎– A Fifth Of Beethoven (1976) John Davis And The Monster Orchestra ‎– I Can't Stop (1976) Love Unlimited Orchestra – My Sweet Summer Suite (1976) Brick – Dazz (1976) Claudja Barry – Love For The Sake Of Love (1976) Parliament ‎– Tear The Roof Off The Sucker (Give Up The Funk) (1976) Heatwave – Ain't No Half Stepp

Sweet, Soft & Lazy: Jazz-Pop From & Inspired By The 80s

Image
Flickr I think the 1980s were one of the best eras in pop music with those big budgets and highly creative musicians. That’s why I like more recent music that was inspired by the decade as well, like the brand new songs from Parekh & Singh and Miles. Let me know what you think! 😊   “I wanted to make a record that would fit in between the Eagles and Michael McDonald. Those 70s and 80s records that had all the top LA guys are the favourites in my vinyl collection so I knew if I wanted to listen to it, others would too.” Adam (Miles) Tracklist: Stella Starlight Trio – Don’t You Want Me (2009) Baiana – Saudade Samba (2022) Viktor Lazlo ‎– Sweet, Soft N' Lazy (1986) Everything But The Girl – I Don’t Want To Talk About It (1988) Rosie Vela – Magic Smile (1986) It’s Immaterial – Driving Away From Home (1986) Peter Blegvad – Karen (1983) Jens Lekman – What’s That Perfume You Wear (2017) Miles – Riding The Wave (2022) Black – The Big One (1988) China Crisis – Black Man Ray (198

Funky Chillout “Summer Breeze” Session

Image
Taylor Simpson How do you call this kind of music? Well, I name it “funky chill”, but I suppose “smooth jazz”, “mellow soul” or “folk funk” might fit the bill as well. Enjoy this warm summer breeze during cold winter days! 😊 Love The One You’re With by Stephen Stills (Crosby, Stills & Nash) was released as the lead single from his debut self-titled album in November 1970. The song, inspired by a remark Stills heard at a party from Billy Preston, became his biggest hit single, peaking at #14 on the Billboard Hot 100 in early 1971. Several cover versions have since been released. The most famous one came from the Isley Brothers, whose unique gospel-driven version of the song sent it to the charts again reaching #3 R&B and #18 pop, giving the group their fifth US top 40 pop single. Nowadays Ronald and Ernie Isley still perform as The Isley Brothers. Last year they released Friends And Family, accompanied by a great video. Tracklist: Meeka Kates – Laredo (2022) The Reflections
