Boombox 18 Daytime Disco, Electro Pop & Future Funk

Last week one of the geniuses of the 1980s, Mark Hollis, frontman of Talk Talk passed away. He wrote highly innovative multi-layered pop songs that sounded like a new chapter to music history. Talk Talk’s third album The Colour of Spring with the singles Life's What You Make It (1985) and Living in Another World (1986) was one of the highlights of the decade. Their following album Spirit of Eden was less successful, but became very influential and is now seen as one of the brick stones of post-rock.  Friction with the band's label, EMI, led to the band's switch to Polydor for their final album, 1991's Laughing Stock, but  they split soon afterwards. After one solo album Mark Hollis stepped out of the limelight a few years later.

Enjoy this new part of Boombox and look out for next week's follow-up to Brazilian Sugar.
