Back To The Vinyl Days On Mellow Mellow FM Radio

From the final days of 2019 to the vinyl days is just a small step. So let’s go back to the sounds of American radio during the seventies & eighties and reminisce one more time before we go into 2020. It’s music from the vinyl era, long before cd’s, mp3’s and streaming audio took over. Enjoy this new episode of Mellow Mellow FM Radio!

State Cows are one of very few modern yacht rock / West Coast / AOR bands that create new original music. The band consists of Daniel Andersson on vocals and guitars and Stefan Olofsson on keyboards and bass. Many guest musicians have contributed to their recordings and live gigs, most notably Jay Graydon (two-time Grammy winner, twelve-time Grammy nominee), Bill Champlin (Chicago), Jason Scheff (Chicago), Michael Landau (Michael Jackson, Pink Floyd) and Ian Bairnson (Kate Bush, Alan Parsons Project). I Got The Message is from their new album Challenges:
"Smooth guitar lines, half-time shuffles, funky bass lines, slick harmonies, real Fender Rhodes, tight horn sections and some California sunshine ... it's all in there!"

Valerie Carter is known as a well-respected background singer, but she made a few very strong solo albums as well. She released Just A Stone's Throw Away in 1977 that featured guest appearances from artistes such as Maurice White, Linda Ronstadt, Jackson Browne and Deniece Williams. She went on to release her second album Wild Child the next year, but then it became quiet for a long time, partly because of her drug addiction. In 2009 Carter was arrested two times for possession of drugs, but she successfully completed all of the court's requirements. She died unexpectedly of a heart attack on March 4, 2017 at the age of 64. The song Valerie by Steve Winwood (sampled by Eric Prydz in 2004) was reportedly about her, as was Jackson Browne's song That Girl Could Sing.

Born in Pittsburgh in 1946 as Rita Wright, Syreeta originally joined Motown Records as a receptionist. Brian Holland discovered her musical talents and she then became a performer and songwriter. She had solo successes with her then husband Stevie Wonder as a co-writer in the 1970s and hits with Billy Preston in 1980. She sadly passed away in 2004.
