Mellow Mellow FM Radio: Golden Years Of West Coast Pop (1971-1986)

Enjoy the golden years of West Coast pop on Mellow Mellow FM Radio

Swedish singer, songwriter and musician Ted Gärdestad was one of Sweden's most popular artists in the 1970s. In 1977 he went to Los Angeles to record Blue Virgin Isles. The West Coast rock oriented album featured contributions from the best American and English musicians at the time, like Jeff Porcaro, Steve Porcaro, Jim Keltner, David Hungate, Jay Graydon, Dr. John and John Mayall. Although Blue Virgin Isles is now considered as a yacht rock classic, it did not sell well internationally, when it was released in 1978. His representation of his country in the 1979 Eurovision Song Contest with the song Satellite was unsuccessful as well. He ended in the lower regions. Soon after he left the music business to join a religious group, but he started making music again in the 1990s. After suffering from depression for many years, Gärdestad committed suicide by jumping in front of a train in 1997.

The sound of Dutch duo Martin & Garp can best be described as feel-good, radio friendly seventies West Coast pop. Making Up is the first single from their debut album Sentimental Fools, which will be released in January next year.

Next up is a new part of Eddy’s Eighties Grooves.
