Smooth Sailing: Chillin’ From Coast To Coast

Ivan Torres
We're chilling from coast to coast this time on a new Smooth Sailing trip! The track by Kraak & Smaak is brand new:

“Drenched in 70s Italian and French dolce vita-esque ambiences with a pinch of revamped Americana to it, the song makes for a direct portal to the happy days of psychedelic pop and weightless downtempo electronics.” (Bandcamp)

Penny Goodwin's story is a fascinating one. 'Milwaukee's unsung queen of jazz' began singing in church with Al Jarreau. She then came to sing in mob owned clubs before moving on to clubs in Chicago and Caesar's Palace in Vegas. Her chief legacy however is her one album, Portrait Of A Gemini. Released in 1974, the LP features her own compositions mixed with covers by the likes of Marvin Gaye and Gill Scott Heron whilst featuring strings by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and jazz guitar legend Phil Upchurch.
