Smooth Sailing: Disco Shoes & Country Boots

Unsplash
Put on either your disco shoes or your country boots during this smooth sailing trip! 😊 This cloudcast is inspired by the new compilation album Country Funk Volume III 1975-1982:

“As the 1970s began to wane and the 1980s approached, the Country Funk pallet expanded to include disco beats, heavy Moog synth bass lines and more clavinet than you could shake a stick at.”

In 1980 Amy Boersma, better known as Amy Holland, received a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist after her debut self-titled album was released. The single from the LP,  How Do I Survive,  went to #22 on the Billboard Hot 100. Some of the songs on the album were written by her husband Michael McDonald, such as Here In The Light and Show Me The Way Home.  The album is still a good example of a very successful country-pop cross-over. How Do I Survive and Strengthen My Love have become yacht rock classics.

Gladys Knight & the Pips are featured in the very cool Disney+ documentary Summer Of Soul about the 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival aka ‘Black Woodstock’.

Next up is a new Funky Chillout Sofa Session.
