Eddy’s 80s Grooves Part 44 The Finest Electro Jams

These electro jams could sparsely be heard in local clubs when I started to go out in the mid-eighties. To find dj’s that played this mixture of electro funk and (post) disco you had to go overseas to American clubs, like Zanzibar and Paradise Garage, where legendary dj’s Tony Humphries and Larry Levan were in command. This kind of music turned out to be the foundation for house a few years later.

In the critically acclaimed documentary The Sparks Brothers from director Edgar Wright (Baby Driver) singer Russell Mael of Sparks tells the story of a record executive who wanted them to make music one could dance to, after dropping record sales. And so the duo did literally by recording the album Music You Can Dance To in 1986. Shopping Mall Of Love is one of the tracks.

Enjoy this new part of Eddy’s Eighties Grooves! Next up is an episode of Mellow Mellow FM.
