Mellow Disco Grooves From The Crates

My dj-style can be described as relaxed Sunday morning music, music you can almost dance to, soulful pop or funky chill. This time I chose to call it mellow disco.

Born in England of Dominican parents but raised in Canada, where she has returned to live, Singer/Songwriter Sharon Musgrave shot to prominence in 1991 whilst collaborating with William Orbit on the Bass-O-Matic project. They achieved international status with the hit Fascinating Rhythm, which Sharon co-wrote. An album soon followed, cementing the groups worldwide status as a credible dance act and Sharon’s ability as a writer. A world tour established Bass-O-Matic as an act that could cut it live. Her beautiful new album is called Sha’s Archive.

With producer Gary Katz, Walter Becker and Donald Fagen gradually changed Steely Dan from a performing band to a studio project, hiring crème de la crème musicians to record their compositions. Though the band didn't perform live between 1974 and 1993, Steely Dan's popularity continued to grow throughout the '70s, as their albums became critical favourites and their singles became staples of AOR and pop radio stations. Even after the group disbanded in the early '80s, their records retained a cult following, as proven by the massive success of their unlikely return to the stage in the early '90s. In September 2017, it was announced that Becker had died in Maui, Hawaii. He was 67 years old.

Rio Best-Seller by Cassiano is from the upcoming compilation Too Slow To Disco Brasil, selected by Brasilian yacht rock connoisseur Ed Motta:

"Before slipping this LP on, you need to nail the AOR modus opera… That means: a Hawaiian shirt à la Magnum PI, loafers without socks as in Miami Vice, jump in your convertible and drive under the coconut trees. This is a sunset ride through Rio de Janeiro, Los Angeles, Miami, Hawaii. Aloha!“

Enjoy these mellow disco grooves from the crates! Next up is a new part of Best Of 70s Soul.
