1974 The Year When Disco Became Popular

In 1974 Rock The Boat by The Hues Corporation and Rock Your Baby by George McCrae were the first disco hits that reached the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100. Club music started to dominate the charts for the first time in music history. It was 'the year of decision", to quote The Three Degrees.

In the Guardian his co-writer Paul Politi told about disco pioneer Barry White and his wife Glodean (of Love Unlimited):

“Glodean and Barry had a wonderful relationship. But when we went on the road together, all of a sudden she wasn’t Glodean, Barry’s wife, she was part of the Love Unlimited trio. It became about business, and she would call him Mr White.”
