Eddy’s 80s Grooves Parts 1 & 2

At least three tributes in 2 hours of eighties grooves! It’s first of all a tribute to vibraphonist Vincent Montana Jr., who died April 13. He is most known as a member of MFSB and as the founder of the Salsoul Orchestra (and Montana Orchestra). In recent years, Montana worked with dance duo Masters at Work / Nuyorican Soul (‘Runaway’) and the Pet Shop Boys (‘New York City Boy’). Find out more about Vincent Montana Jr. on Disco Delivery.

This mix is secondly a tribute to Dutch radio dj Ferry Maat, who introduced soul music to the Netherlands more than 40 years ago. His ‘Soul Show’ was particularly popular between 1980 and 1985, when disco music slowly disappeared from daytime shows on pop radio. His ‘Soul Show’ filled this gap, because soul and disco music were still very popular in the clubs. Maat also started to mix tracks, which was new on national radio at the time. Today he is still presenting the ‘Soul Show’ on Sublime FM.

And finally, the mix is a tribute to Nile Rodgers (picture above), who is in the limelight again, featuring on the new Daft Punk album! I selected his Chic classic ‘I want your love’ that he made with his companion Bernard Edwards, their composition ‘I work for a livin’ (sung by Fonzi Thornton) and the new brilliant Daft Punk single, of course!

The song from Lou Rawls is from a very nice new compilation album, called 'Lay back & chill’, which is out on Harmless Records. Enjoy!
